From the Studio

From the Studio is a major oral history project based on in-depth conversations with artists in their studio spaces to explore their creative processes. I am privileged to have been welcomed into artists’ studios where they have shared stories about the wide-ranging experiences that shape their work. Whether in longtime art studios, multiple temporary locations, or virtual spaces, the richness of these environments contextualizes each artist’s body of work with a sense of place and process.

So much of my curatorial and writing work has emerged from one-on-one engagement with artists, and I have always had a passion for witnessing "what happens” in the artist’s studio. I started the project as a next phase of my work with artists, especially–but not limited to–the Bay Area and Northern California. The interviews, writings, and videos that are emerging through these conversations will contribute to a greater understanding of the creative community in and beyond our region.

From the Studio is supported in part by an Artist-in-Residency as an Arts Professional at the Headlands Center for the Arts, March 12th - April 13th, 2025.
